Inkberry bush

Ink berry is a very poisonous plant and must be removed, if the animals eat the bush they can die or get very sick.

  • We removed the bust today with a panga and sprayed roundup on all the roots of the plants so that they won’t grow in the future and so that the animals don't eat the plants.
  • The negative points on the killing of ink bush  is that the round up are very poisonous and that it can damage your body if it comes on to your body it can make you very ill
  • We made sure the round up was sprayed in every area of the ink berry's roots
  • If the ink berry bush comes into your system it can make you very ill or it can kill you

Firefighting

  • We learned how to work with all the different firefighting equipment
  • We learned how to put on the protective clothing that is used in a fire emergency
  • We learned about the different fire trucks and what all the purposes are for them
  • I had an opportunity to have 1st hand experience on what happens when there is a fire some were
  • All the clothing must go out to all the people going out to the fire.
  • The  fire fighting equipment must be given for different jobs that people have
  • There must be a vehicle going out for the water to the different
points were the people are .
  • All the equipment that was used during the fire must be washed afterward

The strong points of the fire was that no one was damaged and that the fire was successfully killed before it got onto the farm

The week points of the fire was that there were not enough water at the fire for the people to drink and that there was bad communication .

I had the opportunity to learn more about fires and how to handle the rush that the people was in

The threats was that some one could have suffered from dehydration or burned themselves .

Duncan aplicators , tik off and lick blocks

We learned about dip applicators

This is were animals come and eat food in a dip applicator and when they push there necks onto the applicator and amipor goes onto the animals neck.

There are a few things that you must look for when you arrive at a applicator :
  • Is the applicator level
  • Are there still enough amipor in the applicator
  • Is all the moving parts of the applicator still working
  • Is there still enough food left
We learned about pressure plate:
Pressure plates are put at a specific place were animals walk and then wen they step on the plate amipor gets sprayed on the animals

Tings to check at a pressure plate :
  • Are there still enough amipor left in the container
  • Is the pressure plate still working
  • Are there any way that the animal can walk to miss the pressure plate? If so then pack the branches is a way to guide the animals towards the plate
When you put a lick block out you must :
  • Take of the papers so there is no dangerous materials the animal can swallow
  • Make sure the animals can reach the lick block
  • Make sure there is now way the animal can hurt itself

    Fencing

ERECT , MAINTAIN AND MONITOR WILDLIFE FENCES

Plan carefully before you put up the fence
    • Place boundary bar cons where the fence must be put up
    • The area must be cleaned and the ground level must be leveled out
    • When you plan the fence make sure the fence is in a straight line and that if there is a ' kopie ' you can go around it
    Putting up a fence.
    • Folding fences must be put at a river crossing
    • If you put up a fence make sure that you put in the stud poles in at least every 300 meters and the y standards every 20 meters and droppers every 1 - 2 meters
    • The stud poles must be in the ground , the depth is different according to the tipe of soil
    Monitor fences

    • Make sure that regular fence checking are done
    • Report all the places a fence is broken
    • Nabouring farms are alerted for checking fences
    Maintain a fence

    • A fence is prepared that reach the standers
    • Rivers are to prepare require standards
You get 4 tips of wire

    • Steel wire ( this is the strongest tipe of wire and are used for the long horizontal strings on a fence)
    • Binding wire ( this wire is used to tie the steel wire to the stud pole , y standards and the droppers)
    • Thorned wire ( this tipe of wire has little thorn shaped pieces on the wire to keep small animals in , this tipe of wire is normally used at the bottom half of a wire or on a cattle fence
    • Mesh wire ( this tipe of wire are used to keep small game inside the farm)
